Do modeling agencies charge money?
A modeling agency works to submit their actors and models to jobs they receive. In turn, the agent takes any where from 10-20% commission from their booked job. On top of that, the agency will typically take 20% from the casting client as well. As a model or actor looking for an agent, you will mostly need need to have a resume along with a portfolio in order to land an agent. Some agencies will cover your portfolio as well as test shoot and debit that from your future earning. This is very rare and only reserved “special talent” who are typically high fashion males 6’1 or taller and females 5’9 or taller.
Should you pay to become a model?
As a model or actor, you are an independent contractor meaning – you get no salary or hourly wage. In turn, its just like starting your own business. A model or actor always has to pay for their starting materials including comp cards, web profile etc. This is very common. A model or actor should never pay to land a job however.
